March 19 Meeting Notes

Welcome home Kappa Phis!

We hope you all had a fun and restful Spring Break and are ready to finish out another semester!

Big Event is this Saturday! This is one of our favorite events as we get to work hard and have fun together while helping others. The past few years have been great experiences, and this Saturday is supposed to be beautiful and warm. If you want to see the concert and get some free food, come to Reed Arena at 8 am Saturday--we are meeting on the east side. Katie will be posting more information after today on the facebook page. Remember you only have 6 weeks to finish your service hours, so this is a great way to knock half of them out at once. If you didn't sign up, come anyway, we'll find a place for you!

This Friday we are having a girl's movie night at Z Islander (located off of Wellborn)! Come out for snacks, class movies and some quality sister time.

Our last volleyball game before playoffs is this Sunday at 6:25. Come play or support your KPs! If you signed up for the team, bring Valerie $5 then.

In a month or so elections will take place, so be thinking about positions you're interested in now. It's a great way to get involved and get to know other people better and help make Kappa Phi the best it can be.
May 5th will be our wonderful spring formal at the marvelous Benjamin Knox Gallery, so be looking for a new dress or dig out a prom dress and put it on your calendar!

Just one last reminder to pay Christy your dues if you have not, and that weekly small group Bible Study IS required!

Y'all stay dry and have a great week!

2/13 Meeting Notes

Hello pretties!

We hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day and are staying dry this week! This week's meeting went over some upcoming events! First of all, this Sunday is Kappa Phi Sunday, a national tradition where you go with your sisters to church! It will be this Sunday at Grace Bible Church Southwood (their newer campus) at 11:00 at their college service. When you're approaching the building, the college service is the door to your left. It's small, so you shouldn't have trouble finding Meredith or Chelsea. Head out to worship with your sisters and maybe grab some lunch! Directions can be found on the Grace website.

We have moved our Spring Retreat to April 13-14th so as not to conflict with Parents' Weekend or Ring Day. It will be Friday evening to noon on Saturday, and will be held at social chair Kate Maynard's home about an hour away! Carpooling and a packing list will be discussed later. Mark your calendars now as this is a mandatory event!

It's intramural sports season! All you ladies who are interested in playing a sport with your fellow Kappa Phis, comment on Athletic Chair Valerie's facebook post. Volleyball and Kickball are the two being discussed as of now--just one more way to spend time with your sisters! It's cheap and you can plan what time for games works best for you.

Service opportunities are close at hand, so put them on your calendar and check off some of your 10 hours. Let Service Chair Katie know if you're interested in handing out water to runners at the Armadillo Dash on March 4 any time from 7-11 am. Big Event is March 24, and one of Kappa Phi's favorite things to do together; signing up for it will be available soon.

In closing:

-Everyone congratulate our new fundraising co-chair, Amanda Coffman! Props to her for getting involved her very first semester!

-If you want to order a Kappa Phi fleece, contact Christy immediately and respond to her Wiggio post. Turn your dues in to her as soon as possible!

-If you're a pledge and have not been added to Wiggio, email Anne and ask her to add you! Request someone to add you to the facebook page as well if you haven't already.

-Next week's meeting is Bible Study, so bring your Bibles!

Everyone have an outstanding week!

2/6 Meeting

Howdy KPs!

We all survived rush! A warm welcome to our fabulous new girls, Whitney, Ashlee, Aly, Sara, Emily, Amanda, Kaitlyn, and Laura! We are so excited that y'all are beginning your Kappa Phi experience, and hope the pledge experience is fun!

This week was our first meeting, so as usual detailed meeting notes will be posted here for all you ladies that can't attend or need reminders on when things are happening!
  • Service opportunities are coming our way! Big Event is March 24th, so get prepared to bond with your sisters and knock out several service hours in one day! Relay for life is April 20th, so keep that in mind as well.
  • We discussed the Kappa Phi facebook page, and in attempt to reduce traffic and excessive notifications, only executive officers may now post on the wall. If you have a question, check the blog, facebook page and website before contacting a friend or officer with your question.
  • Just a reminder--no cellphones during meetings! Texting or facebook can wait an hour.
  • It's a fresh start for attendance, so make sure you save your 3 unexcused absences for your busy weeks! You must notify Lizzi at eberry1614@neo.tamu.edu of your absence excuse 24 hours in advance. Work, tutoring, class, sickness, family emergencies, etc are all excused, visiting family and friends, studying, etc are not.
  • Meredith has blue rush shirts! They are $14, you can pick them up at her house.
  • Dues are due! $100 for pledges, $85 for actives. Give them to Christy by the next meeting and make sure you don't owe Kappa Phi anything from last semester!
Last but not least, small groups have begun! These are really the backbone of Kappa Phi, and so they are mandatory. There are plenty of options to choose from, so here they are:

Everyone have a wonderful week!

Spring Rush 2012!

Welcome back Kappa Phis! We hope your holiday break was restful and that you're ready for a brand new semester! This is the busiest time of the year for us, so if you were not able to attend the planning meeting, get caught up here!

Rush Schedule

MSC Open House: Sunday, January 22, 1-4 pm in the Rec Center. Actives do not have to attend this! The social committee will cover the shifts.

Informationals: Monday, January 23 and Wednesday, January 25 at 5:30 in Rudder 308. This event is also not mandatory for actives. Officers will attend, and those of you who signed up must drop your tasty homemade cookies off at Meredith's house by Saturday morning. Actives are encouraged to attend the dinners afterward though and meet the prospective girls! Dinner will be at Rosa's at 6:30 on Monday and at Fuddrucker's Wednesday.

Milk & Cookies Party: This will be at Callaway Villas clubhouse at 7 pm on Thursday, January 26. This is a mandatory rush event for actives to attend. Wear a Kappa Phi shirt and get to know our potential pledges! Make sure you contact our social chairs to let them know what you can bring. Milk, chocolate or strawberry syrup, and of course cookies are on our list. If you bring food, it is important that you come early. Carpool to Callaway for these events to save parking spaces for our guests and dates.

Little Black Dress Party: This event is at 7:00 on Saturday, January 28 at the Callaway Villas. Get all gussied up and bring a date to mingle with our new pledges in a fun and fancy atmosphere! It is mandatory for actives to attend, and sign up on Wiggio soon for a dish to take! Make sure you are there by 6:30 at the latest to help set up--we don't want actives walking in with the pledges. The theme is Audrey Hepburn, so think pretty European foods. Kappa Phi will handle the spaghetti! Contact Meredith about handing out LBD invites personally to our pledges, it's a lot of fun!

Rush Bible Study: This mandatory event will be at 6:00 on Monday, January 30 in Read 167. This is an important rush date as it lets prospective girls see what the core of Kappa Phi is really all about! Bring your Bibles and enjoy some beginning of the semester fellowship.

Rose Tea: Another party at 7:00 at Callaway on Wednesday, February 1st. Again, carpool and come 30 minutes early to set up! This is where we'll meet the girls who are going to pledge for sure, so come in your Sunday best with some tea party goodies! Sign ups will be on Wiggio as well.

Degree of the Pine: Last mandatory rush event! The ceremony will be on Sunday, February 5 at 2:00 at the Wesley Foundation, don't be late! We want a great atmosphere to welcome our new pledges in.

*Also during the week, we want to rep Kappa Phi! Write on chalkboards and post fliers, and wear your KP tees. Monday wear your light blue pledge shirt, Tuesday your letter shirt, and Wednesday your long sleeved purple shirt. If you don't have one of those shirts, substitute a different KP shirt!

One last item of business is a new rule implemented this semester. These rush events, because they are mandatory, are now a part of your allotted 3 absences, so try not to miss out on anything!

Everyone finish their first week strong!

11/28 Meeting

Hello ladies!

Yesterday we took a vote on fleeces and have decided that they will be dark grey unisex Columbia fleeces with white kappa phi letters and Texas A&M University printed on the shoulder, with teal bars. Our president has gone to order those today so they are on their way! They will be approximately $30.

Be thinking about if you would like to meet other chapters of Kappa Phi at the annual Alpha Kora conference in Oklahoma. The road trip will be April 13-15.

Service hours are due at our last meeting, which is this Monday on December 5! Print the form off of Wiggio and get it signed by an executive officer. Remember you need 10 hours, and it's $5 for every hour you do not complete. Opportunity details are being handled on the Kappa Phi facebook page.

Semi-formal is December 7 from 6-9 at the Village cafe in historic downtown Bryan! This is a fun and unique venue with delicious food, so slip on a cocktail dress and come hang out one last time with your sisters! It is $15 a person, or $25 for a couple, and bring an extra five dollars if you want to participate in salsa lessons and dancing afterward!

Last but not least, Kappa Phi is holding a profit share from 5-8 pm this Friday at the Chik-fil-a at the Post Oak mall. Tell all your friends to come and say they're with KP!

Everyone enjoy their week, the end is in sight!!

11/14/11 Meeting

An early Happy Thanksgiving from Kappa Phi! On behalf of the holiday, there will be no meeting next week! Instead, we celebrated this week with a fun little potluck meal.

Brief meeting notes are reminders that Smores and Sweaters Party is this Friday at the District Clubhouse! More details and a sign up sheet will be posted online by our social chairs soon. Don't forget this Saturday morning is our Kappa Phi tailgate! We'll be meeting in Spence Park at 9:30 to enjoy a picnic-style breakfast together before the Kansas game.

The last Kappa Phi meeting will be December 5, so that is when you should bring your service hours in. Remember, 10 hours are mandatory, and you must print out the form online and have it signed by someone who saw you doing the hours. Howdy Farm is a great way to pick up last minute hours, so talk to Anne, Katie or Stephanie about when you can head out and get them done!

Everyone be safe on this rainy day!

11/7/11 Meeting, Happy November!

Kappa Phi is so excited to welcome all of our brand new actives!

Retreat was a huge success this weekend, with lots of memories made and bonding going on! Big thanks to the Vines family for letting us stay in their beautiful home and for providing a very special backdrop to our retreat. We had such a great turn out and God blessed us with a fun and beautiful time together.

At yesterday's meeting everyone finally received their merchandise! Everything except for the long-sleeved tees (which we should have next meeting) came in, and everything looks great! Make sure you pay up to Christy so you can get your order ASAP!

The rest of our autumn events are on their way! Dates to put on your calendar are: S'mores & Sweater Party at the District apartment complex clubhouse on November 18, Semiformal on December 7 (a dead day so join us for a study break!), and our annual Thanksgiving Potluck next Monday. For the Potluck just show up the meeting as usual, but bring a festive dish or tasty drink to celebrate the upcoming holidays!

Another important date is the Kappa Phi tailgate, which will be on November 19 for the Kansas game. Because the game was moved to 11:00 am, the tailgate will begin at 9:00. Join us for a picnic of juice, coffee and breakfast tacos! Bring a couple dollars to buy some tacos from us and get hyped for a Fightin' Texas Aggie football game. If you'd like to sit with some KP chicas, give Becca your sports pass this week so she can pull for you!

Everyone also needs to remember to pay their Retreat drivers gas money! By now they have been able to figure out what the trip there and back cost, so ask them how much they need!

Everyone have a focused and joyful week!

Be a Barnabas!

Hello lovely ladies!

This is just a reminder that this past meeting was a Bible study by our lovely chaplain about Paul's conversion in Acts 9. This week you are challenged to be an encourager! Reach out to your sisters and offer them some prayer or praise to brighten their day! Be the person who lifts spirits and brings a smile.

10/10 Meeting

Good afternoon KPs!

Bring your money (approximately $11) next week so you can pick up your adorable new Decades Dance Party t-shirt. They are super cute, t-shirt chair Shannon did a great job! Help make the date party a blast by coming in costume! Start shopping at Goodwill, Plato's Closet or Halloween stores now for a costume of a character, icon or style from a decade. Don't forget that the party is also a canned food drive, and every 5 cans gets you a service hour.

If you still don't have a program book, contact vice president Becca, and she can get one to you. We also have a silver necklace that was found earlier this semester, so if you lost one, let us know and we can reunite you with it!

Plan ahead, Aggie Replant is Saturday, October 22nd!! Plant a tree with Kappa Phi! It's only one hour of work worth 2 hours of service with your favorite sisters!

The committees met and brainstormed last week. If you haven't joined one and want to get more involved, contact Lizzi and she'll get you signed up!

Everyone enjoy the rest of their weeks, BTHO Baylor & midterms!

10/3 Meeting

Happy Friday Kappa Phi!

So, this week we are still collecting stalker card info (name, number, t-shirt size, birthday) so post that on Wiggio or send it to Lizzi's email if you haven't already!

Look on the facebook group to check out where actives are going to church! Feel free to contact any of them if you need a ride or want to tag along.

The tailgate has been changed from the Baylor game weekend due to the game time being moved up to 11:00 am. Instead the tailgate will be November 19th for the game against Kansas State!

Contact Stephanie Roberts if you are for sure going to the Halloween Decade Dance and if you are bringing a date or friend!

This week we collected orders for KP merchandise. Tanks, sunglasses, hats....we have some exciting stuff coming our way!

Support inactive Kappa Phi Ashley Tolles by visiting her business Bows for Bill. Her hair bows are adorable, and all proceeds go to help pay her dad's medical bills.

Kappa Phi active Summer Anderson has started creating decals and cute Aggie products, so stop by her facebook page to check out her photos and see if you want a Kappa Phi bumper sticker made!

Last but not least, don't forget to bring money next Monday for Halloween party shirts! They're purple, long-sleeved t-shirts and super cute!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Some of the amazing binders our pledges have been making!

9/26/11 Meeting

Hello Kappa Phi beauties!

This week's meeting started out with some interesting facts about our members. We will continue the game next week!

Some reminders! Join Kappa Phi on facebook, join the Wiggio group, email (not text or facebook) me if you are going to be absent at eberry1614@neo.tamu.edu! Excused absences are not mere studying, but rather sick days, SIs, test reviews, tests, classes, work, etc. Attendance has been pretty darn good...great job ladies!

We collected everyone's email, tshirt size, birthday and phone number, so if you missed the meeting, go ahead and email that information to Meredith. It's for a handy dandy "stalker" card you'll get with everyone's numbers that you can keep in your wallet for rides, questions, and other needs, and we need y'all's tshirt sizes for all the great shirts coming up!

The halloween party is close at hand! Think about what decade style you'll dress up as; the party is on October 28 at 7:00 at the Conference Center. Find a date or grab a friend,  it's going to be so much fun!

We took a poll to see if y'all were interested in some KP merchandise! We discussed sweatpants, tanks, sunglasses and hats.

The Kappa Phi annual tailgate will be at the Baylor game this year. Let Valerie know if you have any good equipment to contribute and make sure to plan to stop by for some tasty food and sisterhood spirit!

Sadly, the Cupcakes and Cartwheels event is cancelled this Friday, so don't worry about attending that. Instead we will see you Monday at the next meeting.

Everyone have a happy weekend!

First Kappa Phi Meeting of the Year!

Hello Kappa Phis & precious pledges!

This is Lizzi, your secretary. I will be posting overviews of what happens at Monday meetings every week so everyone can stay updated!

First meeting was quite productive! Everyone got comfortable with each other through a name game, and the new pledges were exposed to Kappa Phi opening ceremonies.

~Everyone who missed should grab a commitment form next meeting (goes over compliance with Kappa Phi behavior), and also pay dues. It's $85 for actives, and $100 for pledges.

~If anyone cannot come to meetings (ever) or knows they're going to miss one, email me at eberry1614@neo.tamu.edu so I can excuse you! Only 3 unexcused absences are allowed.

~If you haven't already, sign up for wiggio! It's the website we use to reach all of you with events and reminders. Go to wiggio.com and look for the Join a Group link. Our group is Kappa Phi and the password is kppanda. It might take a couple tries! Use an email you check often.

~Bible studies start this week! Remember that it is required to attend one every week, and that this is the thing that will bring you closest to your Kappa Phi sisters!

~President Anne announced a service opportunity that will take place October 1 from 8-12. It takes place at the Farmer's Market....remember you need at least 10 service hours this semester so it's always a good idea to make a head start!

~Kappa Phi voted on the theme for our Halloween Party, and Decades Dance Party was selected! Visit thrift stores or dig through your closet for a fun costume!

~Everyone signed up for committees (social, service, fundraising). If you haven't go ahead and sign up, there are still spots open in service and fundraising!

Pledge Coordinator Meredith discussed possible pledge meeting times. I'm sure she'll announce the consensus soon! Chaplain Chelsea offered us some words of wisdom for our week and reminded us to be compassionate.

One last note, if any of you pledges are wondering how you'll know what's going on all semester, next week you will receive your program book! This not only holds all the Kappa Phi information, but includes a calendar for the year. Eventually you'll make cute binders together to keep them in!

Well ladies, that's the summary of our busy meeting! Everyone have a wonderful week and weekend!

Love, Lizzi

      Welcome!

Welcome to the brand new Kappa Phi Club blog! The year of 2011-2012 will be the first year the Texas A&M chapter will have an official blog that will post everything from meeting minutes and chaplain notes to pictures of KP social events! This is another medium for potential pledges to learn more about our organization, and for current members to stay in the loop. So, check back here periodically to see what has been posted!
